Born and raised at his family’s home in High Bridge, TJ attended Voorhees High School in Glen Gardner before enrolling at the Mechanics program at North Hunterdon Vo-Tech School in Annandale, his obituary says.

After graduating, he moved to Phoenix, AZ, where he “felt called” to serve in the military. TJ joined the Echo Company 1/285th “Rogues” division and completed overseas tours in Afghanistan before his honorable discharge in 2010.

TJ then worked several positions and was employed by the United States Post Office in Califon. He also earned an Association of Arts degree in Engineering Management Technology from Grantham University in 2017 and had enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at the University of Arkansas.

TJ was known for his kind and compassionate nature, as well as his ability to spread happiness wherever he went.

“TJ often had a twinkle in his eye and was most happy when he could make others laugh,” reads his obituary.

“He had an enormous, kind heart and loved kids and animals. TJ was respectful to all and could make strangers become instant friends.”

TJ cherished the family he built with Lalani Blackburn, especially their children. He leaves behind his son, Matthew “Matty” Bill; Kylah Blackburn, Skyler Russell, and Nakeah Blackburn, and recently became a grandfather to August Rollins and Brynleigh Edwards. He is also survived by his loving parents, Matthew and Maureen Bill; his siblings, Mary Boykoff, Catherine Burton, Patrick Bill, and Patricia Eschner; two aunts, Rosemary Mulvaney and Connie O’Malley-Kulmacz; and many more.

Donations were being made in TJ’s loving memory to Battle Borne or the Phillipsburg Emergency Squad.

TJ’s memorial was scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Finegan Funeral Home in Phillipsburg.
